My wife and I have been doing shots every single morning for the past week. It looks like an odd thing to say but, given that my wife I’ve been pregnant or nursing for the past 2,335 days, but it’s a good thing.(Wellness Shot – Turmeric Tonic With Coconut Water, Ginger And Honey)

As you may not aware, deep cleansing diets are not advised for pregnant/nursing mothers. That’s because the toxins that form by the body can be given to the baby via the bloodstream or breast milk.

Where on the other hand, it’s essential to keep normal detox pathways running well so that things don’t build up. That’s why I love wellness shots – aka freshly squeezed juices and tonics. They’re something that I believe more comfortable giving to my little ones and using, nursing or not.

Turmeric Tonic

While I need an essential energy boost. It has an earthy flavor with a ginger zing, and it’s infused with mixtures that many believe support gentle detoxification. One selective component of turmeric – curcumin – has been studied for it’s ability to block premature aging, defeat depression, manage arthritis and blood sugar, and serve as a painkiller, among other things. I haven’t found any studies about its effect on energy levels, but my experience is that it resembles to help with alertness. Curcumin is a powerhouse with so many documented interests – it’s been referenced in PubMed over 6,000 times!

No juicer? No problem!

This tonic can simply be made with a blender or immersion blender.

The Ingredients Detail:

In this tonic, I’ve further added turmeric with “superstar” ingredients that are recognised in folk – and modern – medicine for their benefits:

  • Ginger is a strong antioxidant that boosts circulation and reduces inflammation. (source) It has long been practised in folk medicine to soothe nausea.
  • Coconut water is often related to as “Nature’s Gatorade.” It contains 13 times added potassium – an electrolyte required for proper cell function – than Gatorade, plus twice the amount of another electrolyte (sodium). (This brand doesn’t produce any additives/preservatives)
  • Lemon is abundant in vitamin C, an antioxidant that is required to manufacture glutathione, a tripeptide that supports with detoxification. Also, according to “ Dr. Alexander F. Beddoe in Biological Ionization in the Human Nutrition organization, the liver can form more enzymes out of fresh lemon juice than any other food component. Given more of the raw materials required to perform properly, the liver’s performance gets a boost from lemon consumption.” 
  • Raw honey is full of minerals and easily digestible sugars, which signal “the body to down-regulate the generation of stress hormones like cortisol. ” It is also thought to promote the immune system, and certain types are even being studied for the likely ability to inhibit cancer increase.
  • Unrefined sea salt carries 84 minerals that help in adrenal capacity, help adjust blood volume and blood pressure, and serve with the delivery of nutrients to cells. It also “defeats adrenaline volume and further promotes overall metabolic health.”
  • Black pepper develops the absorption of the turmeric.

How to optimize turmeric absorption

The active synthesis in turmeric – curcumin – is fat-soluble, so I drink mine in the morning with fried eggs or something alike. Also, it is more satisfying assimilated when taken with fat and an old fashioned pepper, so I drink mine first thing in the morning with fried eggs or something similar. Also, joining “black pepper to turmeric or turmeric-spiced food improves curcumin’s bioavailability by 1,000 times, due to black pepper’s hot feature called piperine,” says nutritionist Stacy Kennedy. 

Turmeric Tonic Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of coconut water
  • 2-inch fresh turmeric (½ – 1 spoon dried turmeric)
  • 1-inch fresh ginger root (about ½ oz weighed)
  • 1 lemon
  • ¼ tsp unrefined sea salt
  • 1 – 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 pinch black pepper (optional)

Instructions

  • Put coconut water, above mention quantity turmeric and ginger root in a blender and carry it a whir.
  • Once the turmeric/ginger is finely shredded, strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a jar.
  • Add lemon juice, honey and sea salt. Assist, particularly with food carrying healthy fats and black pepper for boost absorption.
